Janet's Quilts

As many of you know, I'm a quilter.  It's definitely been a challenge to continue to make quilts since we moved on our little boat, but I have found a way to keep going.  These are some of the quilts I've made over the years.

Leap of Faith Quilt.  This is one of my latest quilts - although I can't really call it a quilt yet, since I have only finished the piecing.  I still need add the back and batting and do the actual 'quilting.'   It is my own design and had its genesis from the 2006 Jinny Beyer Quilting Seminar, in which the theme was 'Kaleidoscopes.'  The quilt has 1166 pieces and was machine pieced.  The irregular border around the center design was hand appliquéd.   I'm calling it Leap of Faith since it was a giant leap of faith for me that it would all come together.

Sheila's Quilt. Every year I try to make at least one quilt as a gift, and this year I made one for my friend Sheila who is - how can I say this? - heavily into Elvis Presley. I machine pieced the quilt base and then appliquéd symbols for many of Elvis's best known songs.

The back of the quilt also has a picture of the King on it.

Mariner's Compass Quilts. Being a boater, I love mariner's compasses, and have made a few things with them, including the quilt and pillow shown below.   Both designs also incorporate the use of Nautical Signal Flags - which have been traditionally used to send messages between ships at sea.  Each letter of the alphabet and number has a flag associated with it.  The flags on the quilt below spell out Chuck, Kiyomi, and Amy. I made the quilt for my friends Chuck and Amy and their boat 'Kiyomi.'   The flags on the pillow to the right spell out the name 'Tumbleweed 1,'  the name of our friends Roger and Erica's boat.

This one I made for our boat. It's a quilted table cover  and the flags under the compass spell - you guessed it  - 'Tardis'

Karen's Quilt  This is a quilt I made many years ago for my friend Karen.  It is a more traditional design with pastel colors and a white background.  Sushi, her cat, is busy making sure the quilt stays in place on the bed.

Group Quilts

Every year for the past 6 years, I have attended the Jinny Beyer Quilting Seminar in Hilton Head Island.  I've made some very dear friends, and we made a couple of 'group' quilts over the last couple of years.  This was our first group quilt called 'Turtles' in honor of a bar and grill that we used to hang out in most evenings after class.  It is a wonderful little place - right on the beach, on the site of the hotel where we used to have our conferences.

The next year, we made a quilt called 'Under the Sea'.

Baby Quilts

Rebekah and Abigail's Quilts.  Rebekah and Abigail are the granddaughters of our English cousins Rod and Kate.   Their two daughters, Judy and Suzy, each gave birth within a few weeks of each other a couple of years ago.  I need to get busy and make more quilts as Rebekah has a little sister now and Abigail will soon have a little brother or sister.

Kylee's Quilt.  This quilt was made as a gift for the latest member of our family - Kylee Mackey - born January 2008.
