New Jersey - June 2006

Cape May, New Jersey is a great place to stop over after coming down the Delaware Bay before heading up the New Jersey Coast.  We spent a night there - at the Miss Chris Fish Camp - and went for a walk around town. There are lots of old Victorian houses and buildings in town - many  that have been converted into businesses.

This is a picture of one house pretty Victorian house in town.

This is the White House of Cape May.  It's a vacation rental property - so you can stay 'at the White House' while on holiday here.

We found this rather tacky sign in one of the nice little neighborhoods.  I'm not sure how the sign got put here or why it's still up.  If I lived in this area in one of those beautiful old Victorian houses, I think I'd find a way to make this monstrosity go away one night when no one was looking.

We met several fishing boats coming in when we were leaving Cape May in the morning. It was a bit tricky passing these guys since they all still had their outriggers down when coming in the channel. As you can see from the second picture, the outriggers stick out on either side of the boat making it about twice as wide as it is long.

We headed up the New Jersey coast to Atlantic City - where we spent a few days.  This is a picture of the Trump Taj Majal on the boardwalk.

Atlantic City still has a huge amusement park build out on one of the piers off the boardwalk.

There is an old lighthouse in Atlantic City - it's a few blocks inland and is no longer used.  They've turned it into a museum and you can climb up to the top for a great view of the inlet and city.  There's over 200 steps up to the top - but the view is definitely worth it.

The view from the top of the lighthouse over the inlet.

The view from the lighthouse over the casinos.  Looks like there's still room for plenty more!

Our friends Mary Kay and Scott who came to visit from Trapp, Pennsylvania.

There are lots and lots of summer sailing camps along the coast in New Jersey.  This was one group who were out for their morning sail.
